Summer Solstice is exciting because it marks the official start of the long-awaited summer season in the Northern Hemisphere. Did you know that the Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year for us north of the equator? The word ‘solstice’ is derived from the Latin word ‘solstitium,’ which roughly translates to the sun standing still or stopping.
Cultures worldwide have been observing and celebrating this “sun-stopping” celestial event for centuries. It was thought to represent many things, such as the return of light, fertility, and new beginnings. Officially the start of a new season, the Summer Solstice seems like the perfect time to celebrate some new wines!
2020 Arcturos Sur Lie Chardonnay
This wine represents the Chardonnay grape in such an expressive manner. The lees aging on this near-perfect vintage creates a well-balanced and complex white. Delicate notes of pineapple on the nose then give way to crisp flavors of apple and mouth-watering starfruit.
2020 Arcturos Pinot Noir Rosé
With its gorgeous strawberry hue, it’s no surprise that this Rosé is bursting with flavors and aromas of ripe strawberries. This wine’s subtle creaminess on the nose and palate is slightly reminiscent of strawberry shortcake, but don’t be fooled! This dry-style Rosé is anything but sweet. A hint of lemon on the finish keeps the wine feeling fresh and bright.
2020 Arcturos Semi-Dry Riesling
The chemistry is just about perfect for this wine. Wonderfully ripe flavors of white peach, green apple, and pear are backed by crisp acidity and complemented by a hint of sweetness. The harmonizing result will please a variety of palates.
While 2020 may have been a tough year for humanity, it was an excellent year for our vineyards. If these new wines are any indication of the future 2020 releases, we have much to look forward to! Cheers to a wonderful summer filled with delicious wine!
